Morocco set to receive record German visitors
Owners of rental accommodation in Morocco could be set to benefit from an influx of German holidaymakers as Tourist authorities in Morocco have announced plans to increase the amount of visitors.
Tourism minister Mohamed Boussaid Speaking at a travel trade show in Berlin said that Moroccan government is keen to expand further into the German market and attract more visitors and Morocco needs to let loose its potential by opening up new areas.
Mr. Boussaid commented: “We just need to adapt our product because the German market is mainly focused on beach holidays.” He also added that projects are currently in progress and will soon enable Morocco to offer new attractions to German holidaymakers. The North African country is set to receive record holidaymakers fro France and Germany due to the initiatives from the government. Other key aspects of the government plans to increase tourism are creation of large number of new hotel beds in popular tourist areas and in beach resorts and a new plan called CAP 2009 is formulated to limit the impact of global financial and economic situation on the tourism sector.
The government official figures states that nearly eight million tourists visited morocco in 2008 which is a 7% increase compared to 2007. The most important source market for morocco is France which contributed 2.6 mn tourists followed by UK, Italy and Germany. The holidaymakers from Germany have increased to 9% in 2008 when compared to 2007.
This comes during a period in which Morocco is attracting a growing number of visitors from the UK. These findings are likely to make positive reading for rental investors in Morocco, as they indicate continuing demand for temporary lodgings.
