Moroccan tourism board launches late deals website
Morocco has become the first country to show restrain during the period of reduced travel bookings as a new website aimed to boost tourist numbers has been launched by tourism chiefs in Morocco.
Moroccothereapy.com has been established to help the tourists in this period of economic downturn as research has shown that tourists tend to book in the last minute, the Times reports. Such a measure may help boost tourist numbers in Morocco, which in turn could be beneficial to property investors in Morocco as the growth in the tourist trade increases the likelihood of collecting strong rental returns.
Deputy Director at the board’s UK office Aziz Mnii stated that this should enhance the appeal of the country to overseas tourists. He commented: “This is a crisis campaign - we want to put Morocco upfront of people thinking of which destination to visit.”
The country’s tourism authorities have collected deals and offers from 30 holiday companies for their website. The Tourist Board also has launched a £2m advertising campaign in Britain as well as launching the website to lure British tourists.
Ali El Kasmi, director of the UK tourist office, said Morocco hoped to increase the British tourists visiting the North African country who otherwise head for long-haul destinations such as the Caribbean or Indian Ocean.
Commenting on the deals, he said every week the tourists will have new offers and to start with there would be 15 tour operators and it would be increased to 300 deals on the website. “We plan the site to run for six months but can also extend it if necessary,” Mr.Kasmi said.
Mr. Doug Mathieson, of cadogan holidays, praised the initiative and has stated that Morocco is leading the way - it would be good for others to respond in the same vein, particularly the Spanish islands.
