Culinary vacations to Marrakech on the rise

Marrakech is a world renowned travel destination, mainly due to its fine restaurants to whet tourists appetite and unique tastes to fill their mouth all for mere pennies.

According to the International Culinary Tourism Association, Culinary Tourism is considered a subset of cultural tourism (cuisine is a manifestation of culture). Moroccan food is experiencing a worldwide popularity and it has become one of the most popular tastes in the US and around the world these days. This popularity has led to an increase in interest in the ancient food capital of the country, Marrakech.

Marrakech is an ideal destination for a culinary vacation. Although it may seem like a unlike choice, when thinking of a culinary trek, the Moroccan people and specific traditional food makes this as a great place. There are many opportunities to stay at guesthouses for the visitors with wonderful chefs who will show them how to prepare regional specialties like couscous, tagines and chicken pie.

Dar Moha , Jnane Tamsna , Jardin des Arts Café de France, Le Comptoir are the restaurants and cafes hugely popular with tourists and locals alike. Marrakech has something of a reputation for its nightlife; several upmarket restaurants offer the full Moroccan experience, including a vast feast, music and alcohol.

Flight bookings to Marrakech rose by 295 percent last summer compared to previous year. Spokesperson Justin figgins commented: “Air Fares have been dropped, this makes the destination a more attractive investment prospect for those looking to cast their nets further afield in search of a holiday home that is a little out of the ordinary”.

Meanwhile, The Independent recently reported that a record number of Brits are buying property in Morocco and enjoying capital gains of at least 20 per cent a year.
