Airport expansion set to boost Marrakech tourism

Overseas investors looking at property in Morocco could be interested to hear Moroccan international flights are enjoying booming performances as it hints that more people are visiting the country.

The Financial Post has reported that a new airport terminal is being developed at the portal in Marrakech in light of Morocco’s “continued expansion” in commercial and tourism related industries. The expansion of the facility at Marrakech would lead to increase in passenger numbers and additional extra flights are also likely to be launched. Low cost airline Ryanair will start providing new service between the UK and Morocco from this month.

This suggests that Marrakech could soon benefit from a surge in its tourism, a development which would result in increased demand for rental accommodation and the local housing market. Consequently, investors of rental accommodations in a popular holiday destination could find the area a good market to consider.

Rob Shaw, marketing and operations manager for Morocco Properties told Easier.com that the increase in tourism has turned Marrakech in particular into a property hotspot. Morocco attracted a record number of tourists in 2007, nearly 7.4 million tourists chose to visit places such as Marrakech and Tangier.

Commenting on this development, the Magharebia.com website remarked: The tourism sector accounted more than half of overall government investment and has generated thousands of new jobs in Morocco.
