Morocco EU talks boost foreign investment

Morocco’s Foreign Minister Taieb Fassi-Fihri said at a conference on EU Mediterranean rim cooperation that negotiations on an advanced status for Morocco will open with the European Union in this spring. Moroccan government feels that progress towards an advanced status with Europe will expand access to the community’s markets and integrate the economies more strongly. Morocco and the European Union at the Association Council in Brussels last year have decided to set up an ad hoc working group to look for changes to the current Association Agreement and are currently negotiating the liberalization of trade.

Recently Al-Arab has reported that new opportunities are being created as Morocco continues on its way for liberalization of its economy. Morocco has emerged as an attractive market for investors in recent years, mostly due to its great economic performance. The country’s efforts of modernization process and EU talks could potentially enhance the amount of foreign investment it receives.

This comes after the recent research by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) revealed that tourists in the Morocco rose by 14 per cent last year. The stats will make positive reading for the Moroccan government, as it is presently with a view to attract ten million visitors a year by 2010.
